"WILLOW AUSTRALIA" cream Blue Wren by Robin Hill small canister tin vintage 1960's. Would be a beautiful addition to a vintage tin collection, as it is part of a set of 5 matching kitchen canisters of the same size, depicting other types of wrens, or stunning kitchen display piece.
Offset lithograph of Blue Wren birds on branches originally beautifully painted in watercolour by renown Australian artist and writer, Robin Hill (1932-.), who specialises in natural history subjects, especially birds. Information on the Blue Wren is on the side of the canister and reads as follow: Blue Wren. A well-loved and well-known garden bird, also found in light scrub and along the banks of creeks from South Queensland to Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia. For the first three years, the male moults into plumage similar to that of the female, but thereafter the familiar blues and black are retained all year round. Tin is small and cylindrical. Willow Made in Australia is embossed on the base. Manufactured in Australia in 1960's.
During this time, Hill was commissioned by a popular biscuit company to produce paintings for biscuit tins. These tins featured Hill's paintings of birds and circulated commercially within Australia.
Signs of lots of use leaving a lovely rustic patina. There is some wear and surface rust, but all in all in good condition for its age (please refer to photos).
