"UNITED INDURATED FIBRE CO" wood pulp 9" bucket antique 1880's America. Would make a beautiful addition to an antique bucket collection, or stunning kitchen display piece.
Pressed / moulded wood pulp 9" bucket, lacquered, leaving a beautiful patina of a reddy dark brown colour. Tactile and primitive design. Features a wire bail handle with a wooden grip. Moulded details on the bottom reads as follows: "United Indurated Fibre Co. Portland M.E. & Lockport N.Y. U.S.A. Patented Feb 6 1893, Oct 30 1883, Feb 12 1884, Jun 2 1885 May 26 1886 and others." Manufactured by "United Indurated Fibre Co" in Portland ME and/or Lockport NY America in 1880's, as early as 1886 or as late as 1880's. "United Indurated Fibre Co" began manufacturing buckets and bowls in the early 1880's and were still in operation until the early 1900's. Trees were ground into wood pulp. Using large steam presses, the pulp was compressed into various products such as buckets and bowls. Was sourced within the Mornington Peninsula. Very rare and collectible.
Very Good Antique Condition. Crack running vertically on interior, but not visible from exterior. Chips and nicks on top rim and base rim.
