"SCHUCO" clown violin fiddler key wind up clock work tin cloth toy 1920's-1930's Germany. Would be a beautiful addition to a vintage wind up toy collection or stunning display piece.
The violin fiddler player is made of tin. He wears an orange felt jacket and two-tone brown fabric pants with polka dots and a blue beret hat worn askewed. A white ribbon (not original) is tied around his neck. The toy is operated by a fixed wind up key, clockwork mechanical. His face is hand painted. "Schuco patent - made in Germany" is on the side of a foot. Manufactured in 1920's-1930's in Germany. Schuco began operating in 1912, and has made some of the most highly sought-after and valuable collectible toys. The player is in fair used working condition. He plays the violin and dances, though stopping and starting, and only when assisted by a turn of the key from the operator. Heavy paint wear on face, violin, hands and feet, a felt ear is nearly missing and dirty overall.
