BILL JACKSON redgum wood live edge jewellery box signed vintage 1970's AustraliaBill Jackson
"BILL JACKSON" reddy-brown redgum wood live edge hinged jewellery box signed vintage 1970's Australia. Would make a beautiful addition to a vintage Australian sculptural wood collection or museum piece.
Beautifully handcrafted wood hinged rectangular shaped box by William L. Jackson, born in England in 1936 and came to Australia in 1978. Made in Castlemaine Victoria Australia, estimated as early as 1970's or as late as 1996. Constructed of reddy-brown recycled redgum wood, varnished. Curved lid with quality exposed brass hinges. Most likely a jewellery box, but also could have been a trinket box. Exquisite live/raw edge to front and right hand side with organic curvature. Void of any joins, constructed from a solid piece of redgum. A quality example of Jackson's highly skilled craft and design. Interior cavity has a kidney shaped opening and interior base is lined with durable black felt. Comes with original card with illustration depicting Bill Jackson turning wood with a lathe, and signed/initialled by Bill Jackson (BJ) with description of wood used. Box is in Brand New Condition, a highly collectible and sought after piece. Was sourced within the Mornington Peninsula.
Throughout his career of 50 odd years, Jackson has earned a reputation for creating some of the finest replica furniture in the world. He is well known as a skilful restorer of furniture and has recently completed the restoration of a collection of furniture by Adolf Loos for the National Gallery of Victoria.
